The SilverSneakers Fitness Program is the nation’s leading exercise program designed exclusively for older adults. Each eligible health plan member is entitled to a free membership at participating fitness centers. The membership includes the SilverSneakers Class in addition to the use of other amenities (such as cardio and weight training equipment, swimming pools, aerobics classes, etc.).
SilverSneakers members must pay for services that other basic members would pay for separately. SilverSneakers members are not required to take the class. The class does, however, offer challenges to more advanced exercisers by allowing participants to choose (increase) the amount of weight and resistance they use. The Wellness Center Staff does offer three (3) free orientations to the Wellness Center for new members joining the Tri-County YMCA, by appointment only.
The SilverSneakers Fitness Program accepts the following insurance plans: Humana Gold Choice, Freedom Blue, Security Blue and Blue Cross/Blue Shield Medifil Plan F. Bring your insurance card to the Tri-County YMCA. You will be asked to complete an enrollment packet to determine health status and whether you need to complete a Release for Activity before exercising. If you do not need a release, you can begin exercising right away. If a release is needed, they you must obtain a Release for Activity Form (provided by the Tri-County YMCA) and return it to the Membership Services Staff signed by your physician or other health care professional. After the fitness center receives your physician’s approval, you can begin the program.
